BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Two Mississippi men were arrested in Slidell after police found $1,500 worth of stolen meat inside their vehicle.

The Slidell Police Department said that the Canine and Narcotics Division officers stopped a car on Old Spanish Trail after they noticed it was driving without working brake lights.

During the stop, officers noticed that both men appeared unusually nervous. Officers found multiple packages of USDA ribeye steaks and beef brisket in the vehicle.

Police said the items were stolen before the stop.

The two suspects, John Garriga, 55, of Gulfport, and Charles Walker, 66, of Biloxi, were taken into custody without incident. Both men were booked on charges of felony theft and possession of stolen property.

“And with shoplifting records longer than a CVS receipt, we don’t see any cookouts happening in their immediate future,” SPD said. “Job ‘well done’ to our officers.”
