Man shot while fleeing Northwest Side armed robbery overnight

CHICAGO — A man is recovering after officers say he was shot while attempting to flee from an armed robbery on the Northwest Side Tuesday night.

According to police, the armed holdup unfolded just before 9 p.m. in the 3200 Block of North Milwaukee Avenue, in Avondale.

Officers say the victim, a 37-year-old man, was walking in the area when he was approached by a male offender who was armed with a gun.

Police say the thief demanded the victim’s belongings and the victim complied, but after handing over his things, he attempted to run from the scene, and the offender allegedly opened fire.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Authorities say no arrests have been made in connection with the robbery and an investigation is now underway.
