Hormel workers claim company violated paid leave law, plan lawsuit

Workers at Minnesota-based Hormel Foods say they plan to sue the company over alleged violations regarding the state’s paid leave law.

Members of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663, the union for those who work at the Austin-based foods company, are expected to announce a class-action lawsuit against Hormel on Wednesday morning, according to KAAL-TV.

Union members tell KAAL that Hormel failed and refused to provide workers with paid leave benefits required by the Minnesota sick and safe time law.

A press conference will be held at 11 a.m. outside the Austin Labor Center to announce the lawsuit.

Hormel employs over 20,000 people worldwide, including over 1,400 at its Austin, Minn. headquarters.
