Another Walmart in the north metro is closing.
The company confirmed the Coon Rapids location along Riverdale Drive Northwest will close on Aug. 29.
There are about 180 people who work at the location, and the company says they are all eligible to transfer to another store.
A Walmart spokesperson says the closure is partly due to financial performance, the location being near other stores and that its older format doesn’t offer what customers want, like a full grocery department.
“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our store in Coon Rapids. We look forward to continuing to serve them at our many nearby locations, on walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business,” the company said in a statement.
It’s the second closure of a Walmart in the area in about two years.
The Walmart on Shingle Creek Crossing in Brooklyn Center closed in April of 2023, with the company saying it wasn’t bringing in enough revenue, but police data also showed it was a hotspot for crime.
