FARMERVILLE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — In July 2025, deputies with the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested four individuals for their roles in the February 2025 death of a newborn. The case was initially investigated by the Farmerville Police Department before being turned over to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the investigation initially began when emergency medical personnel responded to a home in Farmerville, La., after a report that a female had given birth in the bathroom. Paramedics arrived to find the newborn child unresponsive with its head submerged in the toilet.

Life-saving measures were initiated on scene, and the child was transported to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the newborn was pronounced deceased.

The investigation revealed statements made by those present at the scene conflicted with dispatch call logs and emergency response timelines. Authorities determined that the newborn was left submerged for several minutes before help was called. Investigators also learned that no one at the scene attempted to remove the child from the toilet or provide aid before paramedics arrived. The death was ruled a homicide, with the cause listed as drowning.

As a result of the investigation, investigators sought warrants for four individuals for their roles in this incident. The following suspects were arrested for the incident:

Name Age Origins Charge Bond Amount
Lindsey Nicole Washington 21 Marion, La. Second-Degree Murder $750,000
Lee Dell “Pop” Nation, Jr. 69 Farmerville, La. Second-Degree Murder $750,000
Evelyn Nation 74 Farmerville, La. Negligent Homicide $150,000
Elaine Nation 60 Farmerville, La. Negligent Homicide $150,000

According to authorities, the suspects were booked into the Union Parish Detention Center without incident. The incident remains under investigation.
