Man found guilty in 2024 Topeka killing, car chase

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A jury found a second person guilty Friday in a Topeka murder last year.

Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said Lorenzo Pattmon III was found guilty on Friday, July 25 in a jury trial related to the August 2024 homicide of Kyle Higgins. The jury trial started on Monday, July 21.

Pattmon was convicted of four felonies:

  • Murder in the fist degree.
  • Flee or attempt to elude law enforcement.
  • Aggravated endangering a child.
  • Criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

Pattmon will remain in custody without bond pending a sentencing hearing to be scheduled later this year.

In April, a judge sentenced Rommelo Boatwright to nearly 40 years in prison in connection to Huggins’ death. He previously pled guilty in January to similar charges.

The Topeka Police Department (TPD) was called into action around 4:15 a.m. on Aug. 20, 2024 on reports of an aggravated robbery near the intersection of Southwest 29th Street and Southwest MacVicar Avenue.

Police were told a vehicle was stolen that still had a child inside. That child was located near the 3200 block of Southwest Central Park, and was taken to police custody. Law enforcement later arrested Boatwright and Pattmon III after a chase that ended near Southeast 29th Street and Southeast Minnesota Avenue.
