Jury finds man guilty in 2024 Topeka deadly shooting

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A jury found a man guilty in a 2024 shooting in south Topeka.

Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced Kavshun Boykin was found guilty of four charges related to the death of Cody Cooper in April 2024:

  • Murder in the first degree – intentional and premeditated.
  • Murder in the first degree – in the commission of a felony.
  • Aggravated burglary of a dwelling.
  • Criminal possession of a firearm.

The Topeka Police Department was called on April 19 to 3711 SW Park S Ct on reports of a shooting. Officers arriving at the scene found a man, later identified as Cooper, dead in one of the apartments. Investigators linked Boykin to the shooting and arrested him.

Boykin will remain in custody with no bond while he awaits his next hearing scheduled for July 31st.

Police also arrested Michael DeLance Allen and Lolita L. Bradford. Bradford pled guilty to charges connected to Cooper’s death in May 2025. Allen was charged with first degree murder and aggravated burglary. His trial is set for September.
