Man accused of killing Morehead teenager to appear in court

MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man accused of killing 15-year-old Luis Jocsan Nanez Lopez in July is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

On July 20, the police said Gildardo Martinez shot two of his girlfriend’s children, killing Luis in the process. Investigators said he was trying to protect his mother before he was shot.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Congressman Andy Barr and the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Martinez is not a U.S. citizen on July 22. His office said ICE has filed a detainer, which would alert federal officials if he is released.

An arrest citation previously obtained by FOX 56 showed that Martinez was a “part-time” resident in Kentucky.

He’s due to appear in court on Tuesday, July 29, at 11 a.m.
