PINEVILLE, La. (WNTZ) — The Pineville Police Department has identified a suspect dubbed the “BBQ Bandit” after a two-day meat theft spree that left grocery store shelves — and social media — noticeably lighter.

According to police, the suspect allegedly made off with an impressive haul of meats and energy drinks over the course of two days, including:

  • 17 packs of ribeye steaks
  • 6 pounds of thick-cut bacon
  • 12.25 pounds of sausage
  • An unspecified amount of energy drinks

Authorities say the suspect did not pay for the items and exited the store without incident. The department humorously suggested the suspect was either stocking a freezer or prepping for an epic backyard barbecue.

The case quickly captured local attention after the department posted about the theft on social media, referring to the suspect as a “meat-loving mystery shopper” and calling on the public to help identify her.

“With a grocery list like that, we’re confident she either has the most well-stocked deep freezer in town… or knows exactly where a BBQ pit is hiding,” the department posted.

Thanks to tips from the community, the suspect has now been identified, though officials have not yet released her name. Charges are expected to follow.

“All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” Pineville Police noted in their release. “But let’s be honest… that much bacon doesn’t just walk out on its own.”

Anyone with additional information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Pineville Police Department. Anonymous tips are welcome.
