Heat worries? The Gulf disturbance will briefly bring more normal temperatures this weekend, but the intense heat will return next week. After highs this weekend in the middle 90s, we will return to the upper 90s to near 100 for most of next week. This will likely be our biggest weather worry as the heat index will likely continue to meet or beat 105 degrees.
Severe weather worries? We will likely see a few isolated to scattered thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. A few storms could produce some gusty wind, but issues from those gusts will be very limited. Futurecast shows the best chance of rain and heaviest rain will fall over the southern part of the area, where amounts could approach 1/2″.
Tropical worries? The National Hurricane Center will be monitoring the Gulf system. At this time, they indicate there is only a 10% chance that it will develop enough to become a tropical depression. Additional tropical development will be unlikely for at least the next week, and possibly the next two weeks.
Weather Worry Index for the next 10 days: 2 out of 10: While a few storms will be possible on Friday and Saturday, severe weather is looking highly unlikely. Consequently, I will keep today’s WWI at 2 out of 10. Our biggest worry will be health-related issues caused by the combination of heat and humidity.
