SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Weather worries will remain few during the next week to ten days. Our main concerns will remain the combination of heat and humidity, some scattered thunderstorms that will return starting on Monday, and hazy conditions caused by the arrival of dust from the Sahara early next week.
Severe weather worries? While we will see scattered storms return to the ArkLaTex mainly on Tuesday and Wednesday, the threat of severe weather is looking very low. A few of the storms will likely cause some gusty winds and maybe some small hail. Another worry could be the heat index. It could soar above 105 degrees late this weekend and again next weekend, with daytime highs expected to reach the upper 90s.
Worry level: I will keep today’s weather worry index level at two out of ten. A severe storm or two will be possible on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the risk will be very low. Also, take extra caution in the heat, especially with any plans that you have for the Fourth of July weekend. Models continue to show that rain will be rather limited with below normal amounts during the next ten days.
Tropical Weather Worries? Still no worries for us in the tropics! The National Hurricane Center indicates that the Atlantic and Gulf will likely remain quiet during the next 7 days. Models indicate they may stay quiet through the ten days of July. It still appears that we could see a rather dense plume of Saharan dust move into the ArkLaTex early next week. So get ready for some hazy days and interesting sunrises & sunsets.
