According to the governor’s office, the number of vehicles stolen statewide decreased 13% from 2023 to 2024.
The governor credited increased efforts by law enforcement agencies for the reduction.
“We continue to put the safety of California communities first,” Newsom said in a statement. “Through strategic funding and partnerships with local and state law enforcement partners, we are putting a brake on lawlessness and criminals disrupting our way of life.”
A report by the California Highway Patrol said 6,572 vehicles were stolen in Sacramento County in 2024, a 22.85% drop from the previous year.
According to the report, the 2015 Kia Optima and 2001 Chevy Silverado ranked as the most stolen car and truck, respectively.
92% of cars, trucks and SUVs stolen in 2024 were recovered, the governor’s office said.
