THIBODAUX, La. (KLFY) — A man flying for a helicopter company in Abbeville has died in a crash in Lafourche Parish, authorities said.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said the pilot of the helicopter, who was reportedly in his 60s, was in the process of spraying a sugar cane field Wednesday morning when the crash happened. His name has not yet been released.
According to deputies, the crash was reported at 6:39 a.m. about a mile off on La. 308 in Thibodaux, just south of Laurel Valley in a sugar cane field.
Webre confirmed the helicopter belonged to JBI Helicopter Services, which is based in Abbeville.
