Is this a cold summer for San Francisco? Here’s what the data says
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — So far, San Francisco has seen two days of above average temperatures this summer. But has the summer of 2025 been unseasonably cold for SF?

According to data recorded by the National Weather Service, San Francisco is having a mostly average summer. Although multiple summer days have seen lows dip slightly below average, San Francisco’s summer temperatures have mostly hovered in the historically normal temperature range.

KRON4 Meteorologist Kyla Grogan said that San Francisco tends to see warmer temperatures during periods of offshore wind.

“That offshore wind essentially brings dry air our way rolling from inland areas to the sea, reversing our normal pattern, and it pushes our marine layer out to sea so we don’t get the moisture recovery and cool air or ‘nature’s air conditioning’ as we sometimes call it, like we normally do,” Grogan said.

Although The City has seen mostly mild summer days, so far, Grogan said that the offshore winds can sometimes cause San Francisco’s warmest days to occur in late summer and early fall.

“While we have been fortunate, so far this summer, to not see long stretches of extreme heat, we are still very early in the season,” Grogan said.

More mild, cloudy days are in the immediate forecast this week, with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the mid 50s.
