$700,000 worth of meat stolen from truck in Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — More than $700,000 worth of packaged meat was stolen out of a truck early Sunday morning in northeast Philadelphia.

At 3:15 a.m., officers responded to the back of the Whitman Square shopping center on Roosevelt Boulevard where the 18-wheeler was parked. At the time of theft, the driver of the truck felt the trailer shaking. When he checked on his cargo, he told police that two men were unloading boxes of meat into two Nissan vehicles.

Eight officers reported to the scene, and the burglars fled. Police said they got away with 40 boxes. By Sunday evening, 8 boxes were recovered behind the Lowe’s of the shopping center.

Investigators are still searching for the suspects. They are asking anyone with information to call police.
