MCFRS: Multiple people rescued after being trapped in floodwater

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) rescued multiple people from cars submerged in floodwater Saturday.

MCFRS states that between 5 and 7 p.m., crews responded to roughly 100 calls in regards to flooding.

According to MCFRS, crews were dispatched around 5:20 p.m. to reports of a driver stranded in floodwater near Cedar and Philadelphia Avenue.

There, crews found the driver trapped on top of their car and took them to higher ground. The driver did not sustain any injuries during the incident. MCFRS states that the storm drains in the area were blocked, causing the area to flood.

A few minutes later, MCFRS responded around 5:40 p.m. when a vehicle was reported to be stuck in high water near the 7600 block of Blair Road between Juniper Street and Georgia Avenue. There, three people were safely rescued from the car.

Around 5:45 p.m., roadblock boats were dispatched after multiple occupied vehicles were stuck in high waters near East-West Highway and Sundale Road. Several people were then removed from the cars.

MCFRS states that a water rescue was requested around 5:50 p.m. in the area of Sligo Creek Parkway and Wayne Avenue after reports of a car trapped in floodwater. Portions of the road have since been closed due to flooding, according to Park Police.

At 6 p.m., the occupants inside three cars were rescued unharmed near Briggs Road and Layhill Road after they were trapped in high water.

Additionally, around 6:30 p.m. crews were dispatched to Randolph Road and Glenallan Avenue as well as Southwood Avenue and Colesville Road to reports of cars being stuck in the flood.

MCFRS adds that a driver was rescued at 6:40 p.m. after being trapped in the area of Bradley Boulevard in Kentdale Drive.

Around 7:30 p.m., a driver was rescued after their car was trapped in waters near the 10300 block of River Road.

MCFRS says that at 9:15 p.m., crews used swift water rescue boats to rescue a person trapped in their car in the area of Beach Drive and Cedar Lane.
