MIDVALE, Utah (ABC4) — A 23-year-old man has been charged after allegedly shooting and injuring another person in Midvale late Thursday night.

According to court documents, police responded to the area of 7200 South State Street in Midvale around 11:30 p.m. Thursday after the victim advised Taylorsville Police they were shot in the abdomen by an unknown male a few blocks north of the area. The victim was taken to the hospital where they are recovering.

Officers canvassing the area found five spent shell casings and one live round of ammunition at the shooting scene. They eventually obtained surveillance footage and located the suspect, Dakota Pierce, based on the description the victim gave police.

While officers continued canvassing the area, Pierce began walking southbound into the crime scene. He was detained and transported to a police substation for further questioning.

Police interview the victim and another witness, who stated they were riding southbound on State Street when they observed Pierce and a juvenile female walking northbound on the west side of the road. Before entering the vehicle, Pierce reportedly asked the victim and witness, “You having a good night?”

Before either could respond, Pierce fired five rounds in their direction, striking the victim before fleeing northbound.

Pierce was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on one charge of Felony Discharge of a Firearm Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
