“When you look up the word Kentuckian, there is no doubt that you could find a photo of Byron Roberts
The announcement marks the first of a lineup of 2026 inductees. Supporters told FOX 56 that they gathered over 30 letters of recommendation to directors calling for Robert’s recognition.
Byron Roberts created a little slice of heaven down on Ross Creek in Irvine with the inception of Kickin’ It on the Creek. Google Maps won’t direct you there, but each year, music lovers would camp out on the streets of Irvine just to get their hands on a ticket.
“Our first Kickin it on the Creek was a birthday party/Tyler Childers CD benefit, and we had seven bands play for free; we cooked two hogs after we paid for everything, and we gave Tyler all the money from it to help him with his career,” Roberts said in Zachary Curry and Joe Whalen’s “Let the Mountains Ring Forever: The Kickin it on the Creek Story.”
It was history from there.
“He said he was only going to do it that one time we’d built a small stage, and afterward we were sitting around talking about how well it went, and Byron said, ‘Man, I think I want to do it one more time,’” a young Tyler Childers said.
Strangers became friends, and friends turned to family.
The Roberts family farm became a launchpad for bluegrass talent, many of whom went on to play some of the nation’s largest stages.
“More magic happened,” Roberts said. “It’s turned into something incredible.”
The past year has been challenging for the Roberts family, receiving news of a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. One that shook the music community to its core.
“That same community stood up and showed up packing Manchester Music Hall for a benefit show. They continue to show up in support of the Roberts family as the family has done so for them,” the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame said.
“The motivation behind the benefit is how much he has done for our little music community. When you showed up to his property on Ross’ Creek, he welcomed you home, whether it was your first time or fourth,” Greg Adams said. “We as a community stepped up and wanted to take care of him immediately like he would do for any one of us.”
But still, the Roberts lend a hand to those in need. According to the Hall of Fame, the Roberts family raised over 0,000 in funds for disaster relief.
“If more people were like Byron, Jesus wouldn’t come back; he wouldn’t have to,” Jamie Gaddis told FOX 56.
The 2026 Class will be officially inducted in October, per organizers.
