YORK COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — On Sunday, July 17, 1932, Rural Police Officer Elliot Harris was shot and killed after he had stopped a car for reckless driving on Hwy 21 near the North Carolina state line.
When he attempted to arrest the driver, there was a struggle and the driver’s wife snatched Harris’ revolver from the holster and shot him four times.
Unable to start their car, the man and woman stole Harris’ car and sped on toward Charlotte. Later, the couple surrendered to police.
Officer Harris was 28 years old and had a wife and four children.
