James Wright replaced Chris Fritze, who was promoted to district manager for Virginia State Parks.
Wright is a Maryland native with ten years of experience in park operations, natural resource management, and public service. According to DCR, he previously worked as a park ranger at Westmoreland, assistant park manager at Shenandoah River, and park manager at Staunton River.

Smith Mountain Lake will hold an open house on Wednesday from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. to give the community a chance to meet Wright. It will be held at the Smith Mountain Lake State Park Discovery Center.
