NRK was one of the first customers to use Shotoku’s original rail system in 2015 with an underfloor design for a fully robotic studio. Since then, the studio has been in daily use and NRK decided that the time was right to upgrade the rail systems to the latest SmartRail hardware and add three X/Y roaming SmartPed’s to studio 7 to complement the existing floor rail system.
Control for both studios have been updated to Shotoku’s latest V3 TR-XT control systems. The TR-XT panels “maximize flexibility with a shared central data base, allowing either control room to run either studio.”
Aksel Helgheim, head of the upgrade project, said: “When the decision was made to update our on-air look and invest in new technologies, we were pleased to find that Shotoku could upgrade the rail systems we already owned to the latest specification. This allowed us to use more of the budget on robotic pedestals with SmartPed being the obvious choice for Studio 7. We also know we are in good hands when support is needed based on years of experience working with Shotoku.”
James Eddershaw, Shotoku MD, added: “We love it when a long-term customer like NRK trusts us to upgrade their existing systems and also augments their studios with products like SmartPed and our new V3 TR-XT control systems.”
