Bicyclist critically injured in crash on Southwest Side

CHICAGO — A bicyclist is recovering in the hospital after he was hit by a truck while riding on the Southwest Side on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the crash unfolded just before 6 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Ashland Avenue, in West Englewood.

Officers say the driver of a white pickup truck was heading southbound along Ashland when they struck the bicyclist as he crossed in front of the truck.

The bicyclist suffered critical injuries in the crash and was later hospitalized.

The driver of the truck refused medical treatment at the scene.

Officers say no citations were issued to anyone involved.
