Abilene dad accused of making child shoplift

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene dad accused of making his child shoplift from Walmart has been arrested.

Robert Reed Jr. has been taken into custody for Exploitation of a Child in connection to the allegations.

Court documents state Reed instructed his child, who was under the age of 18, to place items into shopping bags without scanning them in the self checkout at Walmart in November 2024.

They were caught with the unscanned merchandise, and the documents state the child told her mother Reed instructed her to not scan them.

Reed is also accused of assaulting asset protection officers during the investigation. He remains held in the Taylor County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
