Suspect rides stolen e-scooter to waiting San Rafael police

(KRON) — The San Rafael Police Department said a man was arrested on Tuesday by awaiting officers when he returned to the police station lobby a day after allegedly stealing an electric scooter parked in front of a downtown business.

SRPD said an officer started a theft investigation on Monday after viewing surveillance footage of the incident “which clearly showed the suspect.”

“A records clerk reviewing the case immediately recognized the wanted man because he had just come into the police department lobby to make an appointment to get his property released,” said San Rafael PD.

San Rafael police said the suspect showed back up at the police department “as scheduled” for the appointment while riding the hot scooter.

“SRPD Officers were standing by and arrested the suspect for the theft,” confirmed authorities.

The recovered scooter will be returned to the owner, said police.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was booked into Marin County Jaol for suspected felony grand theft.
