Many upset after tire thefts in Prince George’s County

GREENBELT, Md. (DC News Now) — Police in Greenbelt are looking for thieves who are stealing tires from vehicles.

Ricardo Dennis, the public information officer with the Greenbelt Police Department, says the suspects are doing the crimes at night and are leaving vehicles sitting on crates at apartments, shopping centers and hotels.

“We have received reports from our citizens that this week that we had four vehicles that were missing all four wheels. And residents would come out in the morning to their cars and find their vehicles sitting on crates,” Dennis said.

Treena Walker’s tires were not stolen, but she was still outraged. She is staying at the Woodspring Suites hotel in Greenbelt. Police said this week, four tires were stolen from a vehicle in the hotel’s parking lot.

“And to come out from where you are staying in a hotel, and you have no tires and they are gone, and it is a concern, and that means it’s another expense, and you have to come up with lots of money to replace so it’s not fair and is concerning to me,” she said.

Police tell DC News Now these crimes are a felony. This week alone, thieves have taken tires from two Honda Civics and two Honda Pilots. Airbags were also taken during the thefts.

Residents like Walker say those responsible should face consequences and be arrested.

“Justice needs to be served, and they need to be caught and charged, and it is so unfortunate that people work hard for what they have, and bad people come along and take it from them,” Walker said.

Greenbelt Police are asking that if anyone has any information to call police.
