Missing Kansas City woman's body found in Mississippi
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Lawrence County sheriff announced a body, believed to be a missing woman from Kansas City, has been found.

Lawrence County Sheriff Ryan Everett said authorities have been search for La’Datra Williams for nearly two months. After eight hours of interviewing Charles Matthew Sims on July 14, the sheriff said Sims told investigators that he would lead authorities to Williams.

Around 2:00 p.m. on July 14, Sims, Everett and a deputy sheriff entered a wooded area in the southeastern portion of the county. Sims, who had been in custody since July 11, gave them details and led them to an area where he claimed to have buried Williams.

The sheriff said authorities exhumed a shallow grave around 11:30 p.m. and recovered a deceased female. He said DNA testing will be utilized to make a positive identification.

“Please remember the Williams family in your prayers as they deal with this senseless tragedy,” Everett said.

Williams, 26, had been missing since May 20, according to her family. They said she was last seen in Silver Creek.

According to Williams’ family, she was visiting her husband in the area. At some point during the trip, she stopped responding to calls and messages.
