Two people drown in single day on Bay Area river
(KRON) — Two people died in separate drownings on the Russian River in Sonoma County Sunday.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office first responded to Monte Rio Public Beach near Bohemian Highway at 2:53 p.m. for a report of two kids struggling to stay afloat in the water.

“Bystanders rescued one juvenile, but the second could not be found immediately,” the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies found the second child underwater 20 minutes later and attempted CPR, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later that day, at 3:49 p.m., a man was found unresponsive in the Russian at Martinelli Beach. First responders gave the man CPR, but he was also pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased,” the sheriff’s office said. “Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be released once they become available.”
