NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Facility operations are impacted at the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office citing an air conditioning outage.

New Orleans Coroner Dr. Dwight McKenna says the coolers in the morgue are running but the building is “extremely hot.” Due to the heat, they are unable to conduct autopsies at this time.

He says currently, they are awaiting confirmation from LSU’s Autopsy facility to use their space as early as tomorrow Tuesday, July 15, if possible.

Until the situation is resolved, certain procedures have been temporarily paused out of an abundance of caution. McKenna adds that they are working with everyone to resume operations “safely and swiftly as possible.”

“Contractors are working on this issue, and we are hoping for a swift resolution. We were hoping it would be fixed by now, but they are running into challenge with specialty parts. Which is why we are in the process of working with LSU and waiting for final confirmation from them,” said McKenna.
