NAACP National Convention comes to Charlotte this weekend: What to know

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The 116th NAACP National Convention is officially underway in Charlotte, bringing a weekend packed with powerful events.

The convention, themed “The Fierce Urgency of Now,” runs from July 9-16 and is expected to draw entrepreneurs, scholars, artists, and activists from across the country.

While events began earlier in the week with the National ACT-SO competition, the main convention kicks off this Saturday, July 12, at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Saturday, July 12:

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Day of Service: Join volunteers as they build and distribute Freedom Libraries across the city
• 8 a.m. Convention Registration and “Be in the Biz” sessions (pre-registration required)
• 9 a.m. NAACP Health Summit (pre-registration required)
• Noon Career Summit and College Fair: Opportunity for students and job seekers to connect with employers and schools
• 5 p.m. Region 5 Welcome Reception (Invitation Only)

Sunday, July 13:

• 9 a.m. Praise and Memorial Service and several key committee meetings
• 11:30 a.m. WIN Empowerment Brunch (ticket required)
• 5:30 p.m. Opening Public Mass Meeting: Open to the community and featuring national speakers
• 8 p.m. Delegates Reception hosted by NAACP Chairman Leon Russell

The weekend will also feature access to The Hub, an open-to-the-public area inside the Convention Center where attendees can explore resources and interactive exhibits.
