The incident happened on June 6 at 6:47 p.m. at a business located on the 2000 block of San Jose Avenue, and SFPD said there were no reported injuries.
San Francisco police said the suspect, identified as Eduardo Dias Da Silva, 21, of Daly City, also had a loaded firearm that investigators seized at the location.
“Through the course of the investigation, officers discovered that a male suspect entered the business and stole store merchandise,” said San Francisco police in a Thursday news release. “As the suspect exited the store, an employee attempted to stop the male suspect, and a physical altercation ensued outside the business. During the incident, the off-duty officer after identifying himself, intervened and detained the male suspect as the employee called for police.”
Da Silva was booked into San Francisco County Jail where he faces several charges, including resisting an executive officer, robbery, and carrying a concealed weapon.
“The officer’s bravery and quick actions led to the immediate arrest of the suspect,” added police.
Despite the arrest, this remains an active case. Anyone with information that can aid investigators is encouraged to contact the SFPD at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411, starting the message with “SFPD.”
