SILVER LAKE, Ind. — A 65-year-old Wabash County man was shot and killed by police officers during an attempted warrant arrest on Thursday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, Dale White of Silver Lake was wanted on multiple outstanding felony warrants including intimidation with a deadly weapon, possession of a destructive device or explosive, arson, auto theft and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle — to name just some.

Members of the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash City Police Department, Wabash County ERT and Kosciusko County SWAT team arrived at a residence in the 200 block of Crappie Road at 9 a.m. on Thursday to serve a search warrant and take White into custody.

According to police, White was inside the residence and allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it in the direction of officers during the attempted arrest. One officer responded by firing a gun at least once at White.

White was shot by the officer and died on scene despite life-saving attempts, state police said.

No police officers were injured in the incident. The officer who shot White will be placed on administrative leave during ht investigation. This is standard procedure for the Wabash City Police Department during officer-involved shooting investigations.

Indiana State Police will be the lead investigator in this shooting.
