Freeport man arrested; K-9 finds drugs and gun during traffic stop

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A suspected Freeport drug dealer was arrested Wednesday after a police K9 sniffed out the illegal narcotics during a traffic stop.

According to the Freeport Police Department, an officer on patrol in the area of West Avenue and South Street spotted Ray Adams, 23, who was wanted for domestic battery and theft charges in Winnebago County.

Police brought in a K9 to search the car and discovered 64 grams of cocaine, 34 grams of fentanyl, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the car.

He was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a weapon by a felon, and armed violence.

Adams was booked into the Stephenson County Jail.
