A Fulton County man is facing charges from a pursuit that covered two counties with speeds reaching over 100 miles-per-hour. Forty-six-year-old William Brandon Hill of Viola is facing five charges in the incident.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Howell County Sheriff’s Office and a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, a deputy was dispatched for a careless driver near Missouri State Highway JJ and Howell County Road 8936 on June 27. While en route, the deputy saw a vehicle matching the description traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway JJ. The deputy activated his radar and clocked the vehicle at 81 miles-per-hour in a 55 miles-per-hour zone.
The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren, but Hill sped up to speeds over 100 miles-per-hour. The pursuit continued across the state line into Fulton County on Sturkie Road where Hill tried to get the deputy to rear end him by braking abruptly. The chase ended when Hill failed to negotiate a turn and ran off the road. The deputy used his vehicle to pin Hill’s vehicle so he couldn’t escape.
Inside the vehicle was a loaded shotgun in the passenger seat along with open containers of alcohol. Hill told the deputy he did not pull over because he did not have a driver’s license. The deputy verified Hill’s license is suspended. Hill was taken to the Fulton County Jail. He was extradited to the Howell County Jail Monday.
Hill is charged with a felony count of resisting arrest by fleeing creating a substantial risk of death or injury, along with misdemeanor counts of driving while revoked, speeding, careless and imprudent driving and failure to maintain the right half of the roadway. He is free after posting $25,000 bond.
The deputy noted in the affidavit he believes Hill will not show up for his court date. He notes Hill is a danger to the community because he is a persistent DWI offender in Arkansas, lives near the state line, owns a car lot and has access to any vehicle of his choosing, so you never know what he is driving.
