Police say Robert Rougeau of Benton, 58, was eastbound on I-220 when his vehicle was struck near the westbound I-49 underpass.
On Wednesday, July 3, 2025, around 5:26 p.m., officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to a major traffic collision involving multiple vehicles near the intersection of I-220 and I-49, just before the westbound underpass.
Upon arrival, officers determined that two vehicles were directly involved in the collision, and a third vehicle was struck by debris resulting from the crash.
According to a press release from police, early findings show that a blue Dodge Ram traveling westbound on I-220 during rainy weather conditions hydroplaned, crossed the median, and struck a guardrail.
After hitting the rail, the Ram then crossed into the eastbound lanes of I-220, where it collided with the vehicle of Robert Rougeau.
Following the impact, Rougeau’s vehicle traveled across the median, passed across the westbound lanes, and struck a concrete barrier.
He was extricated by the Shreveport Fire Department and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The DWI Unit transported the driver of the Dodge Ram to a local hospital, where they say the driver voluntarily gave a blood sample for testing.
This incident remains under active investigation.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
