According to deputies, a report came in around 8:50 p.m. about a swimmer, who possibly went underwater and did not resurface in West Point Lake at Horace King Park near Roanoke Road.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and confirmed that the swimmer had not been located, which prompted the Troup County Fire Department Dive Team to respond to the scene.
The swimmer’s body was recovered from the water at approximately 10:14 p.m. and has been identified as 21-year-old Marquis Rice, of Forsyth, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office says, this incident marks the second drowning at West Point Lake in less than week and advises the dangers of swimming in large bodies of water.
