More than 400 DUIs, 203 crashes, 7 deaths occurred over Fourth of July holiday travel period, Georgia DPS reports

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released their final statistics for road activity during the Fourth of July holiday travel period.

Georgia DPS, which includes the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) division, reported a total of 203 crashes, which left 89 people injured and took the lives of seven people.

GSP also reported 433 DUIs, issued 610 distracted driving tickets and 1082 seatbelt citations.

These numbers mark a decline in traffic-related incidents over the holiday travel period. For comparison, last year’s crash statistics included 18 fatal crashes, more than 500 crashes and 500 DUIs.
