Tippecanoe County woman dies after propane tank explodes in garage

ROMNEY, Ind. — One woman is dead in the aftermath of an explosion that leveled a garage in Tippecanoe County.

Firefighters were called to the home located in the 13000 block of US 231 in Romney late on July 4. Officials told WLFI that Fourth of July fireworks may have caused the fire by igniting a propane tank in the garage.

The garage was reportedly “leveled” by the explosion, according to WLFI, with the home catching fire and being heavily damaged.

According to Chief Deputy Coroner Caroline Hanua, an unidentified woman, believed to be in her 30s, died in the fire/explosion.

The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office is still working on positively identifying the victim.
