Head-on crash kills two on I-270 in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Two people are dead after two cars collided on Interstate 270 in Germantown early Saturday, according to Maryland State Police.

Shortly before 3 a.m., troopers responded to the area of I-270 north at Germantown Road for a reported crash involving two cars.

There, police learned that a Chevy Cruz, driven by Ashley Salazar, 25, of Clarksburg, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the highway when it struck a Honda Accord, police say.

Salazar died at the scene. Medics also pronounced the driver of the Honda, Jeremy De La Torre, 33, of Frederick, dead at the crash site.

Police said it is currently unclear why the Chevy was traveling in the wrong lanes. All lanes of the highway were closed for several hours as crews cleared the scene, reopening to drivers around 7:40 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
