‘It’s a lot of tedious work’: Rockford’s fireworks show is ready for the skyline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — After months of preparation, Rockford’s Jefferson Street Bridge is ready for a fireworks show that will light up the skyline this 4th of July.

Michael Zuzock and his team have played a major role in creating this year’s show.

“I’m excited for the people to enjoy the show,” said the fireworks show’s designer.

The 30-minute show took Zuzock and his team multiple months to prepare the patriotic experience.

Zuzock said the hard work is done, so tomorrow is the time to sit back and watch what he and his team created for themselves.

“I just hit play on my or fire on my panel, and it runs the whole sequence of the show through the panel,” Zuzock explained.

The designer is also responsible for syncing a soundtrack to the show.

“When I design it, I look and I listen to the music and I decide what I want to shoot for a particular hit,” Zuzock continued. “Like a lot of times, you see something soft, you’ll get maybe a strobing effect or a waterfall effect.”

Although the job is stressful, Zuzock said he takes pride in the job.

“A lot of dignity in the whole process,” said the designer. “Then knowing that I did a good job for everybody to put a smile or laugh [on people’s faces], it’s a good feeling.”
