LARGO, Md. (DC News Now) — Drivers in Maryland can expect to pay more to renew their vehicle registrations starting Tuesday, July 1.
Johny McCaskill from Oxon Hill was not thrilled with the news that he will have to pay more money when he renews his registration. Many other MVA customers at the Largo office were frustrated and upset on Monday.
“This is very unfair, and I own three vehicles, and it is hard enough to pay car insurance, but now I have to pay more for vehicle registration fees. And I don’t think it’s right, but that’s the way things are now,” McCaskill said.
Passenger vehicles that weigh 3,500 lbs or less will now cost $120.50 per year to register. Motorists who drive Larger vehicles weighing 3,700 lbs will pay $191.50 for a year, according to the MVA.
Eric Brown from Upper Marlboro thinks the fees will hurt many residents in Prince George’s County financially.
“I think it is going to make a lot of people upset because you have to think about fixed incomes and think about lots of things. This will impact a lot of people,” Brown said.
Motorists who spoke with DC News Now at the MVA in Largo are hoping the cost for registration renewal will be lowered next year.
