In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said deputies joined several agencies around 7 p.m. on June 30 at a crash near the intersection of West Kentucky Highway 90 and Kentucky Highway 1546.
Investigators said a 2003 Chevrolet car was passing another vehicle on Highway 90 before crashing into an eastbound 2001 Toyota pickup truck with two adults and two children inside from Albany. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 59-year-old Wayne County man, was declared dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
The sheriff’s office confirmed that two of the passengers in the Toyota were flown to a university hospital, while the other two patients were taken to surrounding hospitals.
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Rick Moore of Monticello.
There is no word on the status of the four survivors or the severity of their injuries.
Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron said the intersection has had numerous other fatal accidents over the past years, including one earlier in 2025.
