NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — An arrest has been made in a Pines Village area homicide and separate shooting.

The New Orleans Police Department announced the arrest of 20-year-old Jerroy Johnson on allegations of homicide and aggravated battery by shooting.

At 2:40 a.m. on June 22, the NOPD responded to the 5600 block of Morrison Road on a report of a man down.

Responding officers arrived to find the victim, 43-year-old Ashley Aples suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Through an investigation and with help from an ankle monitoring company, NOPD detectives said they identified Johnson as the suspect.

Further investigation led to the discovery that Johnson was also allegedly involved in a June 1 shooting in the 7200 block of Morrison Road.

A warrant was issued for Johnson and with help from the Slidell Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested in Slidell on July 26 by the U.S. Marshals Service.

He was booked into the Slidell City Jail as a fugitive from Orleans Parish on aggravated battery by shooting. He was also booked on a homicide charge upon extradition to Orleans Parish.
