Maupin reservoir bursts, leaving some residents without water

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Parts of an Oregon town are left without access to water after officials said their main reservoir burst open Saturday afternoon.

The population of Maupin, located just south of The Dalles, was encouraged to conserve water as the incident affected upper levels of the town, including an assisted living facility and a clinic.

Much of East Maupin and the town’s main level were not affected, town officials said on social media.

As a result of the damage, a boil water notice was issued until further notice.

City manager Nick Smith added pallets of water were delivered to city hall for those in need and 4,000-gallon tanker trucks were in the process “feeding water into the system.”

As of Sunday morning, the town said they were “looking into why some Upper Maupin residents don’t have water” after service was previously restored the night before.

Additionally, the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office said the water leak has impacted Highway 197 and they are encouraging drivers to use caution in the area.
