SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We are now in our typical summer weather pattern, where rain is much more isolated, with little threat of severe weather. Our main concern will be the heat and humidity, especially late next week during the 4th of July weekend.
Severe weather worries? We will see a few isolated to scattered thunderstorms return to the area with a very slight chance this weekend and a slightly better chance during the first half of next week. There will be a very low chance that one or two storms could briefly become severe, but we won’t see any widespread severe weather issues.
Worry level: I will keep today’s weather worry index level at two out of ten. A severe storm or two can’t be ruled out, but the risk is looking low. Be mindful of the heat and take extra caution, especially with any plans that you have for the Fourth of July weekend. We likely will see the heat index late next week near or above 105. Rainfall will be limited. While WPC indicates 7-day rainfall potential of 1/4″ or less for ALL of the area, some models show that a few spots could receive more than 1″.
Tropical Weather Worries? Still no concerns for us in the tropics! The National Hurricane Center will keep an eye on the SW Gulf, but the risk of tropical development is 20% or less.
It still appears that we could see a rather dense plume of Saharan dust move into the ArkLaTex early next week. So get ready for some hazy days and interesting sunrises & sunsets.
