Pennsylvania minor league team wants to host Savannah Bananas in 2026

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania minor league baseball team is proposing an event sure to make fans go bananas.

The Altoona Curve has proposed that the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition baseball team similar to the Harlem Globetrotters, have People’s Natural Gas Field serve as a venue for the 2026 Banana Ball World Tour. The Curve has received letters of support from the Blair County Commissioners and the Altoona Mayor’s office.

“Any time that the Altoona Curve comes to us and wants us to give them a letter of support or encourage them to do things, it’s the community, right?” Blair County Commissioner David Kessling said. We’re always going to be supportive of that. And we’re supportive of the Curve and we’re happy they’re here. So yeah, we’re happy to do that.”

The Bananas, who are currently on their 2025 Banana Ball World Tour, sell out crowds nationwide, ranging from professional baseball stadiums or NFL stadiums. The event can present an opportunity to boost the area.

“Our goal is always to bring as many people in as we can, even for our regular season games or any events, and get them to stay here and enjoy what we have here and potentially even move here at at some point, to help grow the population of the county,” Curve General Manager Nate Bowen said.
