Plainview police warns residents of phone scam

PLAINVIEW, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Plainview Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving a caller impersonating a police detective.

Several community members have reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be “Detective Brooks” with the department. The caller falsely claims the recipient has outstanding warrants for failure to register and demands $1,500 in payment.

Authorities emphasize that the Plainview Police Department will never call residents to request payment over the phone for warrants or any other legal matters.

Police urge anyone who receives a suspicious call to:

  • Avoid sharing personal or financial information,
  • Hang up immediately,
  • And contact the department directly at 806-296-1182 to verify any claims.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and share the warning with friends and family to help prevent further victims.
