AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – A grand jury in Amarillo Federal Court indicted one man on Tuesday on charges related to allegedly mailing threatening letters to federal judges in Amarillo, Fort Worth and New York, as well as sending a fake stand-in for a biological toxin to courthouses in Amarillo and Fort Worth.
Donald Ray McCray was indicted on June 17 on two counts of “mailing a threatening communication” and two counts of “false information and hoax,” after he allegedly sent multiple letters in March.
According to court documents, McCray allegedly mailed a threatening message on March 7 to a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, and another to a federal judge in Fort Worth.
That same day, court documents said McCray allegedly also mailed envelopes “containing a white powder” to federal courthouses in Amarillo and Fort Worth, “with the intent to convey false and misleading information that the envelope contained a biological agent.”
Court documents further noted that a warrant was set to be issued for McCray, who is already in state custody.
