BATON ROUGE, La. — 24 hours after their 5-3 win over Coastal Carolina in game two of the College World Series finals and eighth national championship in program history, the LSU Tigers are back in Baton Rouge.

Players, coaches, and team personnel received a warm welcome from hundreds of fans when they returned to Alex Box Stadium Monday afternoon.

“Pretty awesome. You know, everything you dream about. Just because we did it two years ago, we certainly don’t take it for granted, and just so proud of this team. You know, I felt like we deserved to be in Omaha, and the longer the tournament went on, it was clear this is the best college baseball team in America this year, and they deserved to be champions,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson.

Jay Johnson and the LSU Tigers won ten of eleven games in the NCAA Tournament, which included five straight wins in Omaha to claim their second national championship in the last three years.

“You can’t find this brand of baseball anywhere else. So knowing that we won the national championship with these players and coaches is the best thing ever,” said freshman pitcher Casan Evans.

The experience is expected to be the first of many for players like freshman pitcher Casan Evans, but for Michael Braswell, who is in his final year of eligibility, it’s a great way to wrap up his college baseball career.

“You literally cannot dream it up better. I mean, with this program, with that team, and, you know, the way it ended. I mean, just storybook for me. You know, like I said, I’m not from Louisiana, but I always grew up a LSU fan and always grew up watching Kramer, Robertson, and [Alex] Bregman and all those guys. And, you know, just a dream of mine to finish here,” said Michael Braswell.

The LSU Tigers end the postseason the same way they finished the regular season, as the number one team in college baseball.

The Tigers will host a championship celebration at Alex Box Stadium Wednesday at 7 p.m.
