NLTCC expands allied health offerings in northwest Louisiana

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS

) – Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) is expanding its Allied Health offerings with a new Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program and introducing a cutting-edge patient simulator named HAL to its Shreveport campus.

The EMT program is a 16-week course that launches in January. It is designed to equip students with essential life-saving skills in a time of growing demand for healthcare professionals.

“We’ve added the EMT program alongside our CNA and phlebotomy training because the demand is there,” said Jacques Brooks, RN, Practical Nursing Coordinator and Instructor. “Everyone knows we’re in a healthcare crisis due to ongoing shortages that began during the pandemic.”

Students will also now have the opportunity to train with HAL, a high-fidelity simulator that offers realistic practice scenarios to students before they step into the field. HAL can breathe, speak, bleed, and even have seizures, allowing students to experience situations more like real life.

“HAL literally brings the textbook to life,” said Kelsey Meshell, Public Relations Coordinator at NLTCC. “He’s already making a huge impact on how our students experience hands-on learning.”

NLTCC has campuses in Shreveport, Minden, and Mansfield. Fall enrollment is now open, with classes starting August 11.
