It’s almost time . . . signs appear at Abilene’s upcoming Chuy’s location

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Signs have appeared outside Abilene’s pending Chuy’s location as locals wait with much anticipation for the restaurant to open.

Two smaller signs are now attached to the building’s façade, which is located outside the Mall of Abilene on the 4100 block of S. Clack Street, and a large sign that will go on top of the restaurant is currently in the parking lot.

As of last check, Chuy’s is expected to open their Abilene location in September. KTAB and KRBC reached out to the corporation to get an update on the timeline for the project, but as of 11:00 a.m. Thursday, no response has been received.

It will cost an estimated million to construct a full-service, 7,195 sq. ft commercial restaurant at the location, according to a permit filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Chuy’s opened its first restaurant in Austin, Texas, in 1982. Read their origin story below:

Chuy’s opened on April 16, 1982 in an old, abandoned Texas Barbeque joint on iconic Barton Springs Road in Austin, TX. There was seating for about sixty, a women’s restroom the size of a broom closet and a men’s restroom that was, well, outside. Founders Mike Young and John Zapp had a vision of a fun and funky Tex-Mex restaurant that served authentic and fresh food in an atmosphere that appealed to everyone. From these humble beginnings Chuy’s was born.
